Finally finished issue 118 tonight and although it doesn't very different I can say a lot of time consuming work has been done... . Started once again by adding some brass etch onto some already fitted ornamentation, fiddly but made easy with the pick up took described earlier... Added brass etch onto the other side of the prow. Next task was to take the 6 cannons, gently filed away imperfections from the casting, gave them a coat of primer followed by 2 coats of gun metal black and finished off with a coat of satin varnish... Fitted the cannons centrally in the gun ports... Last part of the build was the futtock shrouds on the upper sections of all the masts, shrouds on the upper main and foremasts before finally finished with another batch of knots on the ratlines.... .. Next up is working on the yards so till then, happy building all.... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

Haven't used a ropewalk for this one, just used the threads supplied but I have run the threads through some bees wax to reduce the furry effect... Agree with you, the work on johncals rigging looks fantastic, his efforts have certainly paid off.... .. Right now my time is being spent making and dressing the yards, another time consuming process.... More soon I hope... Regards Alan

Hi Alan, BRILLIANT WORK. When you`ve got nothing to do!! How about a ships guide to the different parts. May be useful to new ship builders and to be honest me as well. Can`t wait to see the end result of your Sots, not far off now for sure. Awesome Build, Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Thought I would give a small update on where I'm at and what I've been doing since my last update... Issue 119 started with painting and fitting of 6 cannons just as in the previous issue.. Then it was onto the main part of the issue, the making up of the yards. This also included the work that should have been done in issue 111, the cutting, tapering and staining of the yards. Didn't do this then as I had decided to replace the supplied dowel with walnut. Cut and tapered the walnut yards, gave them 2 coats of walnut stain finishing with a coat of clear matt varnish... Moved onto fitting all the rigging blocks, these were all stained using medium oak stain as I wanted to get an old look rather than the clean pristine look as supplied. When done looked through the next issues and saw the yards didn't include any footropes so decided to make up my own... .. Tried different methods of making up the supports including blackened brass wire but didn't like the way it all looked. Experiments let to me settling with .25mm rigging thread creating a loop at the end by tying around a cocktail stick and each support was wrapped using .15mm thread. Brushed them down with watered down PVA to set everything in place... Finally secured the footropes through the loops. The footropes are now finished on the main mast and bowsprit, still have the main and mizzen to do before moving onto the next issue... A very long session with more to do but am sure I'll get there in the end..... Happy building all..... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

There have been times where I wished I had nothing to do but thankfully they have been few and far between plus I have too many builds waiting in the wings preventing me from sitting doing nothing.... .. No chance of me being bored... As for a ships guide to the different parts, thought I had this covered as I progressed through the diary but if you can give me an idea of what form the guide should take then I'll see what I can put together.... Always happy to oblige a fellow modeller... I know I have to bring the build index up to date but that is for another time I'm afraid.... Thanks again Derek, Regards Alan

Thought the omission of footropes was quite a major feature for these ships, the spars to me looked naked without them.... .. Strong possibility I will be adding additional rigging to that instructed so will see how we get on.... .. Thanks again.. Regards Alan

Brilliant work Alan, a stunning build It will be a historic moment indeed when this build concludes. I'm sure you will replace it with something equally as good though Steve

I'm sure you will replace it with something equally as good though Steve Thanks for the fab comments Stevie, still some 16 issues to get through yet plus the few extras I have in mind so will be a while yet before it's done.... .. Have plenty to choose from for my next build and the hardest part is choosing which one, that'll be another challenge no doubt.... .. The extras I've done here is a very time consuming thing to do especially with the way I've done it but think it makes the effort all worth while.... .. Thanks again.. Regards Alan
