Hi Ian nightwisher Andy and Alan thank you for looking in and the nice comments A bit more done on the build I heve planked all of the decks and bulkheads and sanded them down Next job is fitting the walnut strips to the edge of the decks they where cut to size and glued into place with PVA and left to dry . Then they where sanded down to deck level The instructions say to fit the bulwarks to the side of the ship . I have deviated from the instructions and will fit them after I have flared the frames on the hull as I think they could get broken when the ship is up side down . On checking the run of the planks I found that they fell into the gap of the bow so I have filled them with balsa and cut and sanded to shape and on a bluff bow it will help with the run of the planks Thanks for looking rgd Martyn Martyn Ingram attached the following image(s): Building ? Great work Martyn. She's coming on a treat. It looks very similar build to San Fran 2. Love it. Chris On the bench 1/350 Revell Tirpitz Platinum Edition (Pontos PE and Wooden deck) plus extra Eduard PE set and extra MK1 door sets.

Thanks for looking in guys and the nice comments A bit more done on the San Felipe I have fitted the middle gunport bulwarks and glued the first planks to the side of the hull . The problem with the planks is they are very thick and hard to bend even after soaking in hot water and even my plank bender was having trouble so I had a thought and came up with a cunning plan The tip is to cut a grove across the plank at approximately every 5mm along the length that you want to bend then soak in very hot water for 15 minutes or so then they bend without braking Thanks for looking rgd Martyn Martyn Ingram attached the following image(s): Building ? Hi all A bit more done on the SF I have started the first planking of the hull the stripes are a lot thinner than the first ones and bend a lot easier The first plank that butts up against the keel is the most important as its the one that helps keep all the other planks in line Once done the next planks are soaked in hot water to increase their flexibility and butted up against the first one . I always glue the edge of the plank to the next one as this helps strengthen the hull As you can see by the pictures I haven't shown all the planks being put down I don't know if I am getting better at planking but this has got to be the easiest one I have done as the instructions are very easy to follow To brake up the planking I have built the gratings and ladders Thanks for following rgd Martyn Martyn Ingram attached the following image(s): Building ? Thanks you all for the brilliant comments I would recommend this kit to the first time builder and the more experienced as it is a dream to build and you can add as much or as little details as you wish Thanks for looking in and more updates soon Rgd Martyn Building ?
