Stage 26 – The dashboard and instruments

The instruments supplied with this stage are a set of five gauges (fuel, oil pressure, oil temperature, water temperature, ammeter) and the speedometer and rev counter.
Wrap some double-sided tape around the ends of the tweezers. Using cutters, remove switches A, the ignition switch, the indicators, the parking brake and switches B from the sprue. Position the flat side of the cutters against the bottom of the part you want to remove, while holding the part to make sure it doesn’t get lost. A good alternative to holding the parts is to apply a strip of tape to hold them while cutting. Make a note of which parts are which when you remove them. Locate the three sets of holes in the dashboard, which will take the parts that you’ve just removed from the sprue. Insert the three indicators into the three holes. Try not to scratch the dashboard when fitting any of the parts. Locate the D-shaped hole on the right-hand side of the dashboard and align the flat edge of the pin of one switch B with the flat edge of the hole in the dashboard, and insert the pin into the hole. Fit the other three switch B parts into the correct holes in the dashboard. Fit the parking brake – the pin and hole are both D-shaped, so the brake can be placed in only one position. Insert the ignition switch into the hole at the end of the fascia from Stage 25 then adjust it’s position so that the slot in it is vertical. You might find it helpful to use a magnifying stand. Fit the four switch A parts into the four holes alongside the ignition switch in the fascia. Take the speedometer and rev counter panel and place it onto the speedometer and rev counter then align the speedometer and rev counter with the holes in the dashboard, working from the rear, then push into place - the rims of the instruments should protrude slightly from the front of the dash. Fit the gauge panel onto the gauges, align the gauges with the corresponding holes in the dashboard then push into place.
Align the dashboard with the matching area of the fascia from Stage 25, then push the dashboard into place on the fascia.

Stage 27 – The storage compartment
Contains parts –
Storage compartment Lid insert
Lift the lid of the storage compartment, there is a wood-effect insert on the inside of the storage compartment lid, similar to the one that you will fit to the outside of the lid. Remove the lid insert from its bag. Don’t throw the protective sheet away. Hold the box lid in the open position and align the pins on the insert with the holes in the lid, fold the protective sheet over the lid and the insert, and squeeze the two together.

Stage 28 – Differential case and propshaft

Differential case with propshaft Differential case cover
Take the differential case and align the posts with the holes in the differential case cover then place the holes of the cover onto the posts of the case. Push the case and cover together, taking care not to apply pressure to the propshaft.

Stage 29 – The centre console
Contains parts –
Centre console Air vents × 2 Gear console plate Gear console panel Gear lever base Gear lever gaiter Gear lever
The gear console plate, gear console panel, gear lever base, gear lever gaiter and the gear lever are not used in this stage. Hold one of the air vents next to the hole in the side of the centre console and push into place. Repeat for the second air vent in the hole on the other side of the console.

Stage 30 – The cabin floor.
Contains parts –
Cabin floor Type H screws × 14 Type J screws × 5
Tighten a type H screw into each of the two holes in the rear of the fascia from Stage 26. Then store it away safely in a plastic bag.
Align the posts on the centre console with the holes in the cabin floor, push into place and secure with two type H screws. Place the gear console plate (Stage 29) into the recess in the centre console. Align the post on the underside of the gear console panel (Stage 29) with the lower hole in the gear console plate and secure with a type H screw in the underside of the cabin floor. Collect the three gear lever parts from Stage 29: the gear lever base, the gear lever gaiter and the gear lever. Hold the gear lever base with the projection pointing up, and insert it into the gear lever gaiter, then insert the end of the gear lever base, which is now protruding from the gear lever gaiter, into the hole in the end of the gear lever. Align the gear lever base with the hole in the gear console panel, positioning it so that its projection matches the cut-out in the panel and push into place, secure with a type H screw from underneath. Hold the storage compartment (Stage 27) upside down so that the lid hangs open, pass the compartment lid through the hole in the floor, aligning the holes and posts. Secure with three type H screws. Align the posts on the underside of the driver’s seat (Stage 3) with the holes in the floor and push into place. Secure with two type J screws into the holes in the underside of the floor, then repeat for the passenger seat.

Stage 31 – The spare wheel and the fuel tank

Fit the spare wheel tyre onto the spare wheel by pulling the tyre over the rim of the wheel, making sure the flat side of the tyre is facing the inside of the wheel. Align the posts on the inside of the base of the fuel tank with the holes in the cabin floor (Stage 30), then place the tank in position, secure with two type H screws from underneath the cabin floor. Align the D-shaped pin on the fuel level sensor with the corresponding D-shaped hole in the fuel tank and push into place. Pass the free end of the fuel level sensor’s cable through the hole in the cabin floor then turn the floor over and bend the last 3mm of the cable so that it’s flat against the floor, tape it in place. Finally, fit the spare wheel in the area next to the fuel tank.

Stage 32 – Pedals, fuel system and spare wheel

Take the footrest and push it into the hole in the cabin floor in front of the driver’s seat then push the pedals into the two holes next to the footrest, apply multi-purpose adhesive to the back of the footrest and pedal pins from the outside of the floor. Take one of the floor mats and align the pins with the corresponding holes in the floor, fit the second floor mat in front of the passenger seat. Remove the spare wheel from the cabin floor. Take the fuel pump and align the D-shaped pin at the end of it with the hole next to the fuel tank. Place the fuel pump into the hole in the floor, but don’t push it all the way in – you first have to connect the fuel lines to it in the following steps. Locate the two holes in front of the fuel tank and insert the bare end of fuel line B into the hole on the left and the bare end of fuel line A into the hole on the right. Hold the two fuel lines in place and turn the floor over. Align the ends of the lines and wrap some adhesive tape around them, which will prevent them from falling out. Using tweezers, take the union to which the two sections of fuel line A are joined, and insert the end of it into the hole in the recessed area of the floor, on the right-hand side, then push the union into the hole. Insert the union at the other end of fuel line A into the hole on the right-hand side of the fuel pump. Next, insert the union on the end of fuel line B into the hole in the left side of the fuel pump, push the union and the fuel pump full into place. Fix the bare ends of the fuel lines to the underside of the floor with tape. Install the fuel filter and the spare wheel nut into position in the recessed area then insert the two pins on the mallet into the holes either side of the spare wheel nut. Fit the securing strap into the three remaining holes around the spare wheel nut. Insert the pins on the spare wheel carrier into the five holes in the recessed area then refit the spare wheel on top of the spare wheel carrier.

Stage 33 – Rear compartment sides

Left rear compartment side Right rear compartment side Tailgate strut Type E screws × 2
Align the hole at the end of the tailgate strut with the hole in the rear of the cabin floor (Stage 32) and tighten with a type E screw. Make sure that the strut can move freely, but not loosely. Slacken the screw if necessary. Take the left rear compartment side and place the two pins on its underside into the holes in the rear left side of the floor, using your thumb and fingers, press the compartment side into place. The front end of the compartment side should lock into place below the top of the floor. Take care when assembling these parts, because you may have to use a certain amount of force to get them fully into place. Secure with a type H screw and repeat for the right side.

Stage 34 – Rear compartment floor
Contains parts –
Left floor panel Right floor panel 2.3mm tap Floor panel knobs × 3
Take one of the floor panel knobs and align its pin with the indicated hole in the right floor panel, push into place then fix the remaining two floor panel knobs into the other two holes in the panel. Place the right floor panel over the spare wheel and fit the left floor panel into place next to the right panel.

Stage 35 – Preparing the chassis frame

Remove the differential case cover from the differential case (Stage 28). Locate the two differential mounting posts on chassis frame A then align the holes in the differential case with the posts in the chassis frame and test-fit into position. *Before fitting the differential to chassis frame A, cut threads in its mounting posts using the 2.3mm tap from stage 34, follow the guide in the instructions for how this is done.

Stage 36 – Assembling the chassis frame
Contains parts –
Chassis frame B Type P screws × 9 Type O screws × 3 Type Q screws × 2
Fitting the differential case to chassis frame A - Prepare the differential case and chassis frame A from Stage 35, along with two type P screws from this stage.
Apply some multi-purpose adhesive to the two differential mounting posts on chassis frame A, and align the holes of the differential case with them, push the differential case onto the mounting posts, carefully keeping the holes aligned and secure with two type P screws. Put the differential cover back onto the differential case.
Locate the two holes in the side of chassis frame A, and tap them with the 2.3mm tap and cross wrench. Tap the two holes on the opposite side of the chassis frame and also the two holes in the top of the frame. Turn the chassis frame over, and tap the hole in the underside. Now tap the remaining holes on chassis frame A, remove any swarf from the holes after tapping them. Place chassis frame B on top of chassis frame A so that the three holes are aligned with the mounting post on the differential case and the two holes in chassis frame A. Insert a type Q screw into the hole in the differential case mounting post, then two type O screws into chassis frame B to secure it to frame A.
