Stage 45 – The right door
Contains parts –

Right door window winder
Familiarise yourself with the right door inside panel. Note the locations, shapes and relative sizes of the five holes in it.
Use tweezers to fit the tip of the cigarette lighter into the
hole in the ashtray. Be careful not to lose the lighter, which is very small.
Once the tip of the lighter is in and set perfectly straight, press it fully into place with your finger.
Turn the inside panel over and line up the ashtray and lighter with the rectangular hole and press into place.
Turn the door panel back over and fit the D-shaped pin of the window winder into the D-shaped hole then push into place then fit the door handle into the other D shaped hole.
Familiarise yourself with the grab handle and its trim. The two tabs on the trim will fit into the slots in the handle, while the two pins will fit the handle to the door panel.
Press the grab handle and it’s trim together, then fit into the two holes in the door panel.
Now take the right door assembly from Stage 44, and line it up with the inside panel assembly. The pins on the door will fit into the posts in the panel, press the parts firmly together.

Stage 46 – The left door outer panel

Lay the left door panel on a towel to protect it from getting scratched, then, using the 2.3mm tap and cross wrench, cut a thread into the two holes inside the door.
Fit the door hinge onto the correspondingly shaped ridges at the side of the door panel then place the hinge support on top of the hinge edge. The cylindrical projections on the door panel will fit through the two holes in the support. Now place the door hinge plate on top of the support and secure with a type KK screw, turn the screw slowly as this hole is not tapped.
Familiarise yourself with the door trim. On the side of the trim that faces into the car, the two lower holes are recessed.
The side of the trim that will face the inside of the door panel has a ridge along its upper edge.
Line up the door trim the right way around, with the two lower holes lined up with the two on the door panel that you tapped earlier and fit the trim, then fit the bottom of the window to the same holes and posts, the trim should fit neatly onto the bottom of the window
and hold it in place. Secure with two type C screws.

Stage 47 – The left door

Stage 48 – Rear upper arms and shock absorbers
Contains Parts –

On the underside of the bonnet, place the left bonnet hinge position and use some tape to hold the part in place, do the same for the right bonnet hinge.
Fitting the engine to the chassis
Take the exhaust pipes and silencers (Stage 17), the engine (Stage 23), the chassis (Stage 43), plus type D, type L and type M screws (Stage 35).
Push the ends of the exhausts onto the pins on the manifolds. They should fit tightly without glue, but if they are loose, apply a small amount of multi-purpose adhesive to the mounting pins.
Pass the lower ends of the exhaust pipes through the hole in the centre of the chassis, then push the engine towards the rear of the car until the pin at the end of the propshaft meets the hole at the end of the transmission case.
Slide the engine back so that the transmission case connects with the
propshaft. The screw holes in the case should align with those in the chassis.
Align the holes either side of the oil pan with the holes in the chassis
And insert two type M screws but don’t tighten them all the way in.
Turn the chassis over and insert two type D screws (Stage 35) into the holes in the oil pan, tighten these fully then tighten the two type M screws on the transmission case.
Make sure that the hole in the exhausts aligns with the one in the frame. Place a type L screw in the hole and tighten.
The engine is now fitted to the chassis.

Stage 49 – The tailgate and attaching the chassis panel to the chassis

Toyota 2000GT logo
Line up the Toyota logo with the tailgate, making sure that the logo is
the right way up, there are two mounting pins on the back of the logo – a thin one on the left and a thick one on the right.
You may find it easier to insert the tip of the thin pin on the left side first. Push the logo firmly into place on the tailgate. If it is a loose fit, apply a drop of multi-purpose adhesive to the mounting pins before assembly.
Attach the chassis panel to the chassis
Use cutters to remove the plastic part between the ends of the chassis panel (Stage 43) and trim the burrs with a craft knife.
Slide the chassis panel onto the chassis (Stage 48), the tops of the rear suspension will fit through the openings in the chassis panel. Turn the chassis over. There are 10 screw holes, in five pairs. Check that the screw holes in the panel are aligned with those in the chassis, and adjust the position of the panel slightly if necessary. Insert and tighten the ten type CC screws using the method and order suggested in the instructions.
Using tweezers, insert the tip of the left rear brake hose into the hole in the chassis panel then repeat on the right hand side.
Take one of the silencers (Stage 48), and align the posts with those in the chassis panel. Push the silencer into position on the chassis panel. Then fit the second silencer next to it.
Turn the chassis the right way up, and tighten two type H screws (Stage 41) to secure the silencers.

Stage 50 – The tailgate window
Contains parts –
Tailgate window
Take the tailgate (Stage 49) and the tailgate window, align the six pins on the window with the six holes in the seal around the hole in the tailgate.
If the window is correctly aligned, there should be a short, thin mounting pin on the lower left-hand side. Push the window into place in the tailgate.
As with the Toyota logo, to ensure that the tailgate window does not fall out, you may wish to put a drop of multi-purpose adhesive on the mounting pins before assembly.

Stage 51 – The dashboard plate and steering and fitting the hinges to the bonnet
Contains parts –

Type II screws × 3 (1 spare)
Steering column
Line up the right air vent with the righthand end of the dashboard assembly (Stage 26). The cut-out portion of the right air vent fits over the post on the back of the dashboard. Push the vent in as far as it will go. Insert a type II screw into the post on the back of the dashboard, as shown. Use your fingertip at the front of the dashboard to hold the post in place while you insert the screw, then tighten and repeat for the left-hand side.
Push the steering column into the hole near the right-hand end of the dashboard, the end of the column is D-shaped. If the steering column is difficult to insert, rotate it a little to the left or right
as you push it in. It will be fully in when the collar on it is up against
the dashboard.
Insert two type BB screws into the screw holes on the back of the dashboard plate. Place the dashboard plate against the back of the dashboard, there are two posts which will take the two type BB screws which were loosely inserted into the plate. Push the dashboard plate and the panel together and tighten both screws.
Align the D-shaped hole in the steering wheel with the similarly
shaped end of the steering column and carefully push the steering wheel onto the column.
Align the horn with the centre of the steering wheel, and rotate it so that the triangle in its centre is pointing down, push the horn into the centre of the steering wheel, holding the steering column from the other side so that it is not pushed out.
Fix the hinges to the bonnet
Place a towel on your work surface to prevent scratching, and place the bonnet (Stage 48) onto it. Remove the masking tape on the bonnet hinges and secure both with two type GG screws.

Stage 52 – The front bumpers and grille and mounting the steering column
Contains parts –

Left front bumper
The right and left front bumpers look very similar, but are slightly different. To avoid getting them muddled up, examine them carefully together, end to end. They are slightly wider at their front ends than they are at their rear ends, and also angled. Make sure that you identify them correctly before you fix them in place.
When you are sure of the difference between the bumpers, stick a piece of masking tape to each part and label them clearly ‘L’ and ‘R’. Wrap the parts in tissue paper.
Check that the front grille is undamaged: the front mesh is very delicate. Wrap the part in tissue paper to protect it, and then store it along with the bumpers in a bag marked with the stage number.
The steering tie rod fits into a recess between two bars extending from the chassis. On the right front wheel side, it fits under the pulley of the alternator.
Insert the angled end of the steering tie rod into the left steering knuckle, then do the same for the right side.
Move the front wheels left and right, to make sure that both wheels are now connected by the tie rod. When you move the front wheels, you may notice that the left and right axle shafts catch on the
suspension. This is not a problem, and it will be corrected before the model is completed.
Secure the tie-rod with a type AA screw at each side.

Stage 53 – The fog lamps and front grille
Contains parts –
Fog lamp unit
Take the front grille (Stage 52) and the fog lamp unit, to see how the two pieces fit together. There are two circular projections on the top of the fog lamp unit, while the front grille has a small black bumper at each end and a T-shaped section in the centre.
Insert the front grille into the central opening of the fog lamp unit. Align the holes at the sides of the front grille with the two pins on the back of the fog lamp unit then push the grille into place, applying gentle pressure evenly on both sides.
Take care not to touch the mesh or distort the grille as you push the parts together.
Use a soft cloth or tissue paper to wipe the surface of the front grille. Then wrap the assembled parts in tissue paper to protect them, and place them in a plastic bag, marked with the stage numbers (52 and 53).

Stage 54 – The Headlights

Mounting bar
Take the left headlight cover and headlight, and see how they fit together. A ridged post on the underside of the cover fits into a slotted hole in the back of the headlight.
Hold the left headlight, and align the post on the cover with the hole in the light then push the headlight cover down into the headlight. It will be fixed with a screw at a later stage.
The mounting bar has squared ends, which fit into the backs of the
headlights, align the square end of the bar with the hole in the back of the left headlight, push the end of the bar into the back of the headlight, and if it’s a loose fit, secure it temporarily with masking tape.
Repeat the above for the right headlight.
