Hi Everyone,

This is not a detailed build diary more of a progress report as I receive the monthly packs.
Here are some pictures up to the end of pack three stage 12.
The prop is not fully assembled, that comes later, but I chose to paint it while disassembled because I thought it was easier that way.
I had a minor problem with some wing ribs being in wrongly labelled bags but with other members help that is now sorted.
The fuselage wanted to curve but I have managed to bring it straight and it has remained that way.

Hi Alec,

Now that is looking good Alec, I can clearly see the amount of work you have put into your build and it shows, as with your painting of the prop that looks special, also a great start with the Starboard wing section, it all looks very neat and clean.

Looking forward to the next post.

Hi Everyone,

The attached photo shows Pack 4 Stage 16 completed. The tool kit arrived with Pack 4 and would be very useful to a newbie to model making. My Grandson did appreciate it. I haven't found any insurmountable problems with the Spitfire build so far.
Now waiting for Pack 5.

Well I thought it was ok and then I got critical and now I'm not happy. The pictures show that my starboard wing and fuselage are out of alignment. I wear verifocal glasses and all looked ok until I put a straight edge and plumb line against them.
As I have decided I'm not too far in to the build I have canceled my monthly sub and ordered the complete kit and will start again. I may be wrong but I cannot think that this much out of alignment will fill finish up as a good job. Lesson learned is that the components may not be absolutely accurate as moisture in the air and drying of the wood will alter it over time after machining.

Fresh start, different approach, more accuracy required.

Hi Alec,
From your pictures all looked fine to me,but I did notice a small warp in the fuselage, but like me we try to achieve the best results we can, so I do understand why you have gone for the full build and start again, and with the promotions on offer couldn't be a better time.

Looking forward to your post's

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for taking a look at last post Trev.

Well I started again and all is now well i.e.:straight where it should be with the help of a 25 x 25 x 3 aluminium angle.
Pictures show up to stage 41 with still some more sanding to do on the wings.
I must say that I am enjoying this build very much and looking forward to the challenges that it throws up.

Alec,

This build look's the part, I can see clearly the effort you have put in, also you have the advantage and experience from your first build which makes it all the more favourable, I am really looking forward to see future post's.

Well done Alec

HI Everyone,

I have made some progress. engine bay and cover, cockpit sides.

Port wing leading edge that I fixed with Araldite and started on wing panels that I fixed with superglue gel.
I didn't find the panels easy, not done this before, last plane that I skinned was balsa, tissue and dope.
Still need a bit of cleaning on the panels, I'm not sure about the panel pins, does it need them? Any advice welcome.

Hi Everyone,

Latest update, fitted the front end to the fuselage and the undercarriage bays to the wings.

I will delay joining the wings as long as possible, work space is a little tight!!

Hi Trev and Kev,

Thanks for looking in.

Finding this one challenging but enjoying every minute.

Following Alan (ALW) has anyone completed this kit?

I don't recall seeing anyone finish their build on this forum Alec, though I think Trev (tf64) isn't very far away from the finish line with his?

Nice build Alec - well done!!
