Have just received my eagerly awaited full kit. This was supposed to be a "winter build" but I could not resist making a start !. I intend planking the deck with individual planks using the soft pencil method on the edges to simulate caulking . I have done this on a previous model with good effect where I also used teak oil rather than varnish. I do not intend fitting portholes (apart from those in foc'sle spaces) since these were retrofitted in the 1930s when she became a training ship. Some drawings show a companionway at the after end of poop which again was not on the original build. I had originally intended to build from scratch inspired by the book by C. Nepean Longridge whose impressive model is on display in the Science Museum but, on reading this fascinating account of his build, decided that my skills would not be up to the task so was pleased to find this model kit which so far looks very good indeed.

My name is Derek - a retired Master Mariner. On further perusal of the kit I find it has a nice set of sails but, since I do not intend fitting sails, they are free to anyone who wants them.

This topic should help you, keep the size of your pics to a maximum of 148kb, 600x450 pixels, that way your pics will show up on your post rather than as a download requirement to view.... https://forum.model-spac....aspx?g=posts&t=244
