Stage 27

Thunderbird 2

Parts supplied:
Details 7 - 20

Glue detail 7, 8 and 9 into position. Now fit details 10 - 13 to the inner wall. Detail 14 and 15 are fixed together before being attached to the inner wall, with details 16 and 17 to the right and left respectively. Details 18 - 20 have a stepped lower edge and when fixed in position they form the bottom locating point for the inner wall.

Stage 27

Excavator

Parts Supplied:
Main body, Rear end panel, Front hinge base, Steps x2, Rod mounts x3, Details L + R, Exhaust pipes x2 and Piston bodies x2.

Glue the details L + R to the rear end panel being careful to check their orientation. Separate the exhaust pipes from the sprue and remove any burrs, do this especially carefully as the tab is a crucial part of the exhaust pipe. Now fit both exhausts. The end panel now fits to the main body, but check the parts are flush with each other before the glue sets.

Fit the front hinge base next and the two steps making sure they sit flat on the body. Clip the piston bodies into place facing upwards. Do not glue these parts. Now check the parts are seated correctly, and can rotate. Then glue the three rod mounts into position making sure you push the parts all the way in.

Stage Complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.

Stage 28

Thunderbird 2

Parts Supplied:
Right outer panel

Glue the outer panel to the right inner wall. The locating pins will make sure it’s placed correctly. Press the parts together so they are securely joined.

Dry fit the wall assembly to the right side of the pod. Seat its bottom edge into the groove to locate it. The pins on the outer edges of the frames will sit into matching holes on the inner wall.

Stage 28

Excavator

Parts Supplied:
Cockpit, Siren, Roof detail, Detail A, Detail B x2, Exhausts L + R, Rod bases x2, Rod mounts x2, Rear detail and Cockpit side details x2.

Glue the roof detail to the cockpit making sure it is orientated correctly. Fit the detail A to the rear of the cockpit followed by the two details B on the top. The siren is now fixed to the front of the cockpit roof. Fit the side details making sure they are orientated correctly.

Fit the rod bases next making sure you have the correct orientation. Make sure the bases are firmly set in their recesses and are level to each other and the main body. Glue a rod mount into each rod base. It does not matter which way round they go. Then fit the rear detail.

Check everything is firmly fixed in place and then lower the cockpit into its locating holes facing the front. Now remove the exhausts from the sprue and trim any burrs. Line up the tip of the left one to the rod mount and slot the exhaust’s rectangular tab into its slot. Then position the exhaust so the tip sits flush with the rod base. Repeat for the right exhaust.

Stage Complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.

Stage 29

Thunderbird 2

Parts Supplied:
Left outer panel.

Glue the left outer panel to the inner wall as you did for the right and press the parts together to seal them. Fit the wall to your Pod 3 again seating the bottom lip in the groove. Carefully close the panel inwards.

Stage 29

Excavator

Parts Supplied:
Rotary blades A + B, Blade casing, Scoop, Scoop mount, Main rods, Shock absorbers x2 and Supports L+R

Glue blades A and B together. Now without glue fit the blade casing to the scoop via these two tabs, then pull the parts apart gently so the tabs latch securely. Now secure these parts together with a little glue. Using the pin at the end of the blades as a guide slide them into the scoop so they fit neatly inside. Now fix the scoop mount to the scoop.

Carefully remove the shock absorbers from the sprue and remove any burrs. One goes on each side of the main rods making sure you orientate the parts correctly. Dry fit the side supports of the main rods to the scoop side pins, being careful as you pull the rods apart slightly.

Remove the supports L+R from the sprue being careful with these small parts. Glue the left support (see L on sprue) into its slot and make sure it dries straight. Now repeat for the right support. Glue the side pins of the main rods into the holes at the top of the supports.

Stage Complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.

Stage 30

Thunderbird 2

Parts Supplied:
Roof panel inner, Roof panel outer.

Glue the roof panel outer to the inner pressing the parts together so they fit neatly to each other’s shape. The roof will now sit neatly into the space between the two side panels to complete Pod 3. Do not glue the roof in place the ribs and slots will locate the parts. (You can look through the front or rear hatch to check the roof is on correctly.)

Stage 30

Excavator

Parts Supplied:
Rod, Rod cover A, Rod cover B, Piston arms x2, Pull rods L+R, Main rod base, Tank and Mudguard.

Glue the mud guard in place checking its orientation is correct and then glue the tank in place.

Join the rod to the rod cover B making sure the pins are seated correctly. Seal in the rod with the rod cover A and secure with glue. Make sure the hole between the blade casing and blades is in line and clear, then fit the rod and covers into the two holes. Only glue the smaller pin and not the larger pin as the blades need to rotate freely.

Slot the main rod bases into the rod mounts fitted previously via the pins on either side of their lower sections. Be gentle as you work with these parts. Now trim the piston arms from their sprues and clip them into place without any glue. Use tweezers to fit the piston arms into the upturned piston bodies. Do not glue these parts.

Slot the scoop mount into the scoop hinge on the main body but do not use any glue and make sure the parts are clipped together securely. Now fit the three arms into their rods also without any glue.

Carefully remove the left and right pull rods from their sprue and dry fit the right pull rod’s thin tip through the rear mount and then glue its other end to the right rod via its tab. Check the join is secure and then pull the rod straight. Repeat for the left pull rod, dry-fitting its tip to the rear mount and gluing its forward tab.

To complete the Excavator, glue its main body assembly to the previously assembled chassis.

Stage Complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.

Legs B x4 and Inner tubes x4.

Insert an inner tube into the tip of one of the last stage’s telescopic leg springs and feed the tube down into the spring all the way to the end. Then repeat so all four telescopic legs A and springs have their inner tubes inserted.
Now fit the telescopic leg A’s metal section into one of the leg B parts and pull the thinner leg A part through the hole in the leg B part. Repeat this step for all the legs.

Stage 32

IR3

Parts Supplied:
Cockpit, Cockpit rear, Bulkhead, Main body, Generator, Headlights L+R, Front grille, Air intake, Front handrails L+R, Rear handrails L+R, Front wheels x8, Front track guard L+R, Front tracks outer x2, Front tracks inner x2, Front tracks x2 and Screws x2.

Remove the front grille from its sprue and trim away any burrs then glue it to the front of the main body. Now fit the left and right headlights either side of the grille. The air intake is now fixed below the grille. Now fit the cockpit rear part and the cockpit itself into place so that the parts fit together neatly.

Carefully fit the right front handrail into the holes, but only glue the hole on the side of the main body. The rail should end up perpendicular to the cockpit rear wall. If needed the upper tip can be carefully moved in or out until it is perfectly straight. Then repeat for the left front handrail. The bulkhead is glued in place next with the generator behind it. Now fit the rear handrails behind the front ones making sure they are parallel to the front rails.

Carefully separate the wheels from their sprue and trim any burrs. Place four wheels in the front track inner without glue and then seal the parts in with the front track outer. Glue only the connecting posts, making sure the glue does not run onto the wheels. Make sure the wheels can rotate freely. Repeat for the other wheels, and inner and outer front track parts.

Pull one of the front tracks over one of the assemblies and repeat for the other one. Now dry fit one of the track sets into the holes beneath the main body’s front section and use one of this stage’s screws to secure the track to the main body.
