Just as thought as anybody soaked the planks bent them into shape via a hot Iron tacked into place waiting to dry.....
Then as anybody used a hairdrier over the tacked plank to help the fitting and a quicker drying..

I have never got on with those irons, tend to burn myself more than i should :-)

When i am planking i use the following method.

1. Get something like a tall soft drinks bottle.

2. Fill that with hot (not boiling) water

3. Working with a few planks at a time stand them in the bottle for 10-20 minutes

4. Remove from the water and dry excess water with a paper towel.

5. Fix in place on the keel using planking clamps or nails.

6. Allow the plank to dry on its own.

7. When dry, remove plank, add glue and fix permanently in place.

By no means the quickest way of working but its one that works for me.
