Thanks Alan.
This may seem a silly question, however I will be planking the deck shortly and I was wondering how many planks to put on at a time? I was thinking of putting the centre plank first, then when dry one on either side, two planks at a time working out, would that be ok?

regards Martin. Hi Martin, on this forum there isn't a question that is silly, we're here to help all modellers wherever possible.... Asking questions is how we all learn....  With planking the deck, if you are using PVA then you only need to apply a thin layer to get a good hold. Once the plank is in position you only need to leave it for around 10mins to allow the PVA to get a good grip, then you're ready to fit the next plank. If you are planking either side of the centre plank as you suggest then your waiting time for the PVA to grip should be minimal..... Regards Alan

Hi Martin when I did mine I cut my planks to 70mm which gave me 7 to a length and I cut 2 lengths at a time giving me 14 planks which I glued either side of the central plank, so I stuck 14 planks at a time with each application of glue. Ken's the name modeling's the game.

Hi Everybody. An update and word of warning for beginners like myself! After a bit of a false start through on thing and another. I dove in and started to plank the decks, when I had almost finished, to my horror I realised that in my haste I had not put on the waterways. So looking at the mess I had made, I have ordered some new planks and I will be stripping off what I have done. A lesson I have learned. "Read the instructions proper and then read them again before doing anything.  Martin.

I'm sure we've all done similar things (sometimes even things which are too late to correct(yes I've been there)) I'm sure you will manage to sort it out( do you really have to remove all the planking just to put the waterways in) Ken's the name modeling's the game.

Hi Ken. I am taking all the planking off because I couldn't find any basswood strips to match, so I have bought Lime strips! The nearest colour that I could find. but to avoid difference in matching I think it will be better to do the whole lot again. "with more care" Martin.
ps. I forgot to say that I would need to trim off all of the planks individually at the bow but not sure by how much until the waterways are in place. Martin

Cornwall model boats do a whole range of wood (including basswood) I know it's a bit late now you've bought it, but mention it for future reference. Ken's the name modeling's the game.

Hi Everyone. I have at last started again, I cleared all the decking that I did and started again have done the stern bulkhead and put the waterways on. I have opted to put them onto the edge of the deck and later I am going to add a piece of 2x2mm batten rounded off along both sides at deck level.Martin OldMart attached the following image(s):

Thanks Tony. I could get some decking done but will have to wait until Monday. I have invested in a guillotine for better and more precise cutting but it isn't coming till then, still I can always go digging down at the allotment and get cold and wet lol. Martin.
