Has anyone made any improvements to the way the rear wheels are mounted?
To me the wheels are far too heavy to be mounted with such a tiny bolt. There has got to be a better way. I was considering drilling and threading a longer bolt into the axle. Maybe a longer M2 or M3 bolt. But still not sure that will make things much better?

Hi Jason,
First, welcome to the forum.
Secondly, I feel a friendly bit of advice is required. Any adaptations to these kits are entirely at the owners risk. Should damage occur during the process, it is entirely at the owners risk and damaged parts will not be replaced free of charge.
I`m sure Roy will be along and as he is the official builder, will have more info for you.

Hello there. Welcome to the mad house...
As Derek has mentioned, any mods that you attempt are entirely at your own risk.
I've built two of the GT40 kits and I remember the rear wheels feel 'loose' or even 'floppy' unless the screws are really tight. They need the 'one step forward, one step back' approach - tighten a bit, loosen off a bit, tighten more etc etc. That way you will get them nice and firm.
Another method I'm mentioning but not personally recommending is to use a good cyano adhesive but then you can't ever remove the wheels again.
Personally I'd suggest the in-out-in screw method.

I wasn’t planning on doing any mods. Mods is not something I like to do, I prefer to use the parts that are supplied. I was just curious to find out what other people may have done.
If I need to replace parts, I am hoping I can do that. But hopefully I will not need to.

Hello and welcome. I am building the same kit right now. Leaving the wheel to the side. Do not... follow the directions when putting the tire on the wheel. You will almost certainly break something doing it by the magazines instuctions. What I do is take one of the extra screws and put some oil on it and run it in a bit. Back it off and rinse and repeat till the screw is tight. Mount the tire on the wheel first. Wipe off any oil residue and then you can mount the entire tire/wheel to the axle. There is plenty of room to drill and thread a longer screw. But like everyone has said... at your own risk. That being said... if something goes completely pear shaped. Parts are still available. I just found out I was missing an issue and I reached out to CS and they sent it. Best Regards, Ron
