BigGrin Hi All
My Jiffy bag arrived today with my D51 partsDrool BigGrin Drool I cant see the point of adding more pics of the blister pack parts as others have already posted them. Included in pack 1 is a dvd which wouldn't play on my PC but did on my DVD player some nice images of the D51 and the D51 video construction instructions[ how some people are spoiled, but I guess its common practice in Japan to have this type of format]. Im still deciding wether to paint or shine but 1st construction pics will follow shortly

BigGrin Here we go
I have decided to paint and have ordered several gallons of Lifecolours ' Weathered Black' paint which has been especialy formulated for model railway engines, there are also some weathering kits available for the running gear ,oils stains, brake dust ect.
I deviated from the official build slightly and used cocktail sticks to help align the brass ring to the mounting plate [4 holes at the top] also I found the hinge mounting holes to be a little large so I added the smoke box door and used it to line everything up as the epoxy was setting.
I then fixed the number plate, then fixed the door in place and made up the chimney and water heater assembly and sprayed up the three components with grey undercoat which needs another coat in places. The wheal assemble is filed back now but in still trying to find a good paint match for that stainless steal running gear maybe il have to experiment with some colours I have by mixing them here, as usual all comments and questions are welcome

Great start Andy. I am painting mine so will be looking at the life colour paint myself. I think Alclad do a really good stainless steel paint but I will need to check.http://alclad2.com/finishes/regular/ Did you use an etch primer?
