Hi Alan Alan can you help me get confirmed that the images on my build log of the Cutty Sark can not show some of the pictures on page 4-5-6. I am not sure if it is only me who can not see them on my computer when I do not get opdats the systems. I will re upload the pictures if you can not see them. Cheers Jens

Hi everyone, for those like me who decided to leave all of the cannons and build them as a job lot should also realise with the amount to be done makes this a long drawn out task.... If I could do it again I would break the task up into job lots. So far I have completed building the cannons but still have to make up and attach blocks to 14 more. 10 cannons are now complete, constructed in the same way as the cannons for the maindeck. With a little luck I should be fitting these 10 cannons onto the forward deck tomorrow.... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

The cannons look fantastic Alan, please dont say you wish you hadnt saved them as one job, Im doing the same on my Trinny and have 28 to do, although I dont plan to fully rig them! Im sure doing them as one lot will make them look more uniform...I think Steve

Im sure doing them as one lot will make them look more uniform...I think Steve Thanks Stevie, the cannons have been a joy to do but at times have had to walk away from it due to the repetitive and fiddly nature of the task, especially when constructing over 100 or so rigging blocks.... .. On this one, there are 10 cannons on the maindeck that have already been fitted, 14 cannons for the foredeck, 10 on the quarterdeck and 4 on the upper quarterdeck. So to break up the task I think I would have done them in batches of 10, 10, and 4, that way uniformity could still be maintained on each deck.... .. Think I will be at these for few evenings yet before I can move onto another part of the build.... .. Thanks again for looking and for your kind comments.... Regards Alan

The red the instructions say to use just looked too out of place for me when I tried it on one of the decks... I wanted the cannons to look used and a little dirty, cannons would have been well maintained and clean but would not look pristine.... feel I have the look just right.... . Thanks for looking in and the kind comments, appreciated.... Regards Alan

Finally finished fitting and rigging the 10 cannons on the foredeck, certainly tested the patience.... .. Now to get going doing the same for the 10 cannons on the quarterdeck and there looks to be even less room to work with on this deck.... going to be challenging.... .. Happy with how its looking so far.... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

I believe the cannons overlooking the decks would have been used as a last line of defence should the ship ever be boarded by an enemy... May cause a lot of damage but at least the crew would have a fighting chance of preventing the ship from being over run..... .. Thanks for looking in.... Regards Alan

Looking great Alan! She's really starting to look like a ship of war now her 'teeth' are going in! Even with the rope and tackle those hybrid gun carriages must have been a swine to haul around. You're right about those backward facing guns, I would imagine they'd be loaded with grapeshot to sweep the waist area if it got boarded and over run. Would still make a right mess of the fixtures and fittings though!! Keep up the great work!
