I then drilled out the face of each gauge with a 2.0mm diameter drill to form a recess. I spent an evening cropping one of the gauge faces from a photo taken on U995. I then resized it in Power Point so it was 2.0mm in diameter to match the recess I drilled in the gauge body and printed more than I needed to have a few spare. I then carefully cut out six of these bezels and glued them to each gauge. I then attached 0.4mm diameter solder to each gauge to represent an air pressure pipe. The pipes were then painted white. The whole thing looks a bit scruffy in this photo, but then again the photo is in macro and in reality this rack of gauges is only 10mm x 7mm. Sticky Wickett attached the following image(s): Completed projects: 1/43 scale Bedford HA van / 1/43 scale MG TD sports car Current projects: 1/48 scale U-boat [U230] Future projects: 1/148 scale railway diorama / 1/50 scale R/C Volvo F89 logging truck / 1/148 scale Thunderbirds Fireflash

Fitted, behind the compressor on the hull. Positioned so that the compressor operator has a good line of sight to the gauges. Still amazes me Phil just how much detail you are finding to add to this build. Forgetting the model for a moment i have to say you really know the ins and outs of these craft in so much detail. Hope things continue well for you. Tony Happy Modelling

Thank you Tony! Well, I know the ins and outs as I served 8 years as a mechanical engineer in the Submarine Service. My first sea going draft was aboard HMS/M Opportune, a diesel/electric Oberon class submarine and my second sea going draft was aboard HMS/M Triumph, a nuclear powered Trafalgar class submarine. The Oberon class, of which 13 were built for the Royal Navy, all launched in the early 1960's and were gradually phased out in the late 1980's. HMS/M Opportune was one of the last three serving and was finally decommissioned in 1993. I joined HMS/M Opportune in 1990 and stayed onboard as part of the crew until her final 'paying-off' day in June 1993. After that she was sent to the famous Pounds Scrapyard in Portsmouth, where she lay, rusting and looking forlorn for about 4 years before being broken up. During this period, whenever I travelled along the M27 entering Portsmouth, I used to look out towards Pounds and spot her and then one day she was gone! The Oberon class had a lot of their design, layout and equipment based on German U-boats. It was these similarities that inspired me to build this U230 U-boat project. I do wish Hachette would of produced an Oberon class model though. Attached is a photo of HMS/M Opportune, moored up at HMS Dolphin, 1st Submarine Squadron, Gosport, circa 1991. I'm in the front row, 5th from right, sat down. This is also the location of the Submarine Museum where I hope to have my U230 U-boat model on display. Regards, Phil W. Good afternoon from 'The Dockyard'. This week has seen further detail added around the gauges i made last week. The first item is the electrical isolator for the air compressor motor. Made from styrene sheet and rod, cut to size and topped with a hand filed brass ring. Sticky Wickett attached the following image(s): Completed projects: 1/43 scale Bedford HA van / 1/43 scale MG TD sports car Current projects: 1/48 scale U-boat [U230] Future projects: 1/148 scale railway diorama / 1/50 scale R/C Volvo F89 logging truck / 1/148 scale Thunderbirds Fireflash

I then made an ammeter. This will be located next to the isolator.
