Time to get back on with this one seeing as the horrible Datsun is just hardening the clear coat for a few days. I've assembled the front upright parts after removing the seam line from the caliper and repainting it. I've also painted the piston end caps white, as per Girling calipers. The kit ones aren't quite correct but TBH they will be almost invisible when the model is finished. I am going to add a bit of rust around the edge of the actual disc. Many thanks John for the comment. Much appreciated. I've moved ahead a tad more. The decals have been cleaned off the door using acetone which doesn't touch the body colour. Rubbed down with 800 grit, primed, rubbed down with 1200 grit, then 2 coats of blue. Inner door parts were sprayed satin black so they don't look so plasticky. Window hinge and fastener detail attended to using bare metal foil and the door is now assembled. Next, the light units were fitted to the front body. My thanks as always chaps. A little 'improvement' here - and a really simple one. The seat has dozens of moulded in rivets which are painted gold. However, on the actual car the rivets are hollow to allow for ventilation. I dry-brushed these with matt black paint and then wiped the surface of the rivets leaving the hollow dimple in black. Once the seats were assembled the result was quite good. I had contemplated trimming the seats in leather but apart from being difficult to do due to the rivets, the actual seats really were a pretty grim, saggy plasticky fabric so I left well alone. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Thanks Mark. Next step - putting the two seats together. Before I did this, I looked at reference pictures of the real car. The centre console/tunnel cover is actually covered in rexine (fake leather stuff) So I covered mine in real leather. Also, the flat panel on the edge of the drivers seat should actually be a padded area. The incorrect bolt heads were sliced off and a pad was made from thin sponge and leather which was then fixed in place. Much better... roymattblack attached the following image(s):

A little more done... The floor pan and rear chassis parts have all been repainted satin black. Far better looking than bare black plastic. I've also painted the fuel line covers black as that's how they are in the car I'm basing my build on. Assorted parts assembled and the seats just test-fitted to see how it all looks. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Many thanks for peeping in. Second door now completed. The seat harness parts are now in and I've repainted the front end of the centre console for a bit of contrast. Rear bulkhead parts underway but I've made a new coil as the kit part looks a bit like a plastic drinks bottle to me. I also added the low tension leads to it. A slightly more drastic alteration was needed for the fuel pump. The car I'm using for reference has a Holley red pump so I cannibalised the kit part to create something similar. Again, the wiring to the pump has also been added. Once more, all the black plastic parts have been repainted satin black. Dashboard now assembled with new gauges to replace the kit decals. I also repainted all the switches so they now have chrome bezels and black switch tips. Switch labels added, as well as the air vent on top of the dash. Roy, I sometimes worry about your relationship with leather....I had completely missed noticing that the center support was padded.

Many thanks for looking in and commenting chaps. I think Mark could be right though - I do seem to get a bit fixated on adding leather...  Anyway - I've added parts to the dash that are on my friends car but not in the kit. Various relays/switches. I also added some colour to the fuses and painted the fuse contacts silver. The dashboard is now in and the main metal floor assembled. One point - it would have made far more sense for the instructions to tell you to connect up all the wiring etc BEFORE fitting the 'J' shaped side supports. It would have removed all the fiddly threading through of the cables. A BIG bit of modding at the front. My friends car has a 'Firesense' safety system in there so the spare wheel support was cut off and the extinguisher was scratched from bits and bobs I could find. Brake and clutch pipes were also added as well as the horn and wiring. NOW - you may notice what looks like a steering rack in there too... That's because where the kit part is actually fitted, isn't the same compared to my friends car. I've altered my model to be closer to that one. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Thanks for looking in and all the comments chaps. Ok, I've now fixed the floor pan/interior to the metal chassis plate. However, I found that the instructions don't actually explain where the four remaining 'loose' wires need to be routed before screwing the floor down. After studying the image of the circuit board and connections I was able to work out which wire was supposed to be routed to where. If anyone else is a bit baffled, I've posted some pics to show the various wire 'exit' points on the model. After that the front hubs, wheels and assorted gubbins was added. Straightforward if a bit fiddly in places. Then I repainted the air hoses as my friends car has them in orange with metal bands. The bands were easily painted in using a broad Molotow pen. The radiator parts were sprayed matt black and then surface wiped with kitchen towel and white spirit. I also added the missing grille mesh on the small cooler. Screw holes covered with ally tape and then it was fixed in place. It's beginning to be a hefty big lump... roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Righty-ho...
Some alterations needed now that I've got 50+ish new pictures of the car as it is now.
Some of my previous work will have to be altered.
Nothing drastic, but I want to get it fairly close to the real one...
More details to follow.
