Hi all,
Hope you had a good Christmas and I wish you all a Happy new year.

Update on the Spitfire:
I have continued with the Starboard wing to near completion as part 5,I hope that there will be no warp as it is difficult to pin down, mind you the hole frame is so strong you would be unlucky if that happened.
I have posted a few pictures to show my progress.

This picture shows first half of the Starboard Wing with setting clamps and blocks.

This picture shows Starboard end of wing without rear spar.

This picture shows 4x4 top wood strip and rear wing spar.

In this picture it shows that if the top wood spar is a bit difficult to fit, in my opinion I trimmed away the ribs, I did not sand down the wood 4x4 as this will weaken it.

Well that's it for now more to follow.

Regards Trev.

Hi all, 29.12.13
Just a bit more today regarding Part 5,this is about the Starboard wing tip supports found it all went together very well top and under side but the next problem was the clear tubing which has to be fitted through the ribs, I do not think it should have a big kink half way along, looks like it was folded over to fit the package. Not to sure how to remove it as I think this is were the Starboard wiring pass through, comments please.

Also made a start on the Port wing.

Regards Trev.

Think I will have to buy a new tube?

Starting Port Wing.

Thank you for you time.
Regards Trev.

Very nice build so far Trev, Id say that the tubing is certainly for the wiring to pass through and therefore will have to be sorted or replaced as early as possible, can't you just squeeze with pliers to open it back out?

I am not building this model but you could try this

Depending on the diameter I would try placing in warm water to soften and then insert one of my wifes small knitting needles to smooth out the kink

Thats if you can remove it from the wing

Hi Trev, nice to see you managed to work round the broken part problem... Well done, shows great ingenuity.... As for your tubing problem, I would be inclined to cut the kinked piece out and sleeve it providing you have the length to spare.... If it were a fuel line then I'd replace it...... Cool Cool .. Super work so far and am enjoying your build....

I think sleeving is your best bet and do a test thread to see if you have removed any snagging issues. It's Lickly a replacement may have the same issue.

Thanks again.

Hi Trev.
Hope you had a great xmas.
The build is going fantastic and looks like a great job you are doing.
Sorry to hear of the broken part.
Have you got a bit of plastic snake outer that they use for r/c aircraft or would this be of any use http://alshobbies.com/shop/cat.php?id=1024
Have a great new year and hope you get it sorted soon.
Best regards.
Mark

Hi Mark,
Good to hear from you and I wish you and your family a happy new year. Thank you for telling me about Alshobbies and pointing out the carbon tube looks good. Im just wondering about the under carriage i.e. is there room for a solid tube? is that why they have fitted a plastic tube I think I will have to wait on that one, but I am keen on that carbon tube.
thanks Mark.

Trev.

BigGrin Hi Trev
Like Mark i was going to suggest the outer of a R/C snake as a replacement or trying the hot water may be the best way to get bock in shape.

Hi Andy,
I have taken note of all the suggestions sent to me and have tried some but to no avail or advantage to me, it keeps returning back to the kink.
I think I have said enough about broken parts and tubes.

Hi Trev, BigGrin

Work`s been very hectic recently, so I`m playing catch-up between trying to keep my own builds going. Crying

You have put in some great work recently, including part repairs etc.

If you`ve not cured the tubing problem then I`d go with the knitting needle idea and leave it in place overnight to if it makes any change.

Keep up the good work.

Looks like I`m gonna have to go back to home base and start again as the upper stringer on the rear fuselage is out on one former and I have a radial twist at the front of the mid fuselage section Cursing Cursing .

Give us an update on the tubing issue which ever way you decide to go, cos I have a feeling it may be a problem one or two may encounter.

Happy building

Regards

Hi Del,
Thank's for keeping in touch, well I have tried the needle approach but as you know plastic has a memory and when cold it returns back leaving me with a large kink, What I will do is to buy enough tubing for both wings, If they packet it lose in the white bag this would not have happened, I have also brought a sheet of 3.2mm ply just in case I have to replace parts due to bad packing, part 5 and after should be packed in a box let's hope this will solve the problem.

Regards

Trev.

Trev, where you have clamped the wing spar either end with 4 blocks, is it just the weight of blocks and clamps holding spar or have you fixed them in position some way, looking very good by the way, hope I can emulate when I begin, Andy

Hi Andy,
Hope your Spitfire build is all ok with all the problems you have had, this is a great build and we will all end up with a excellent model.
As for the wing spar I found, for me it was best to use the blocks and clamps at each end not only to keep it all as flat as possible but to keep it vertical ,I will be building the port side in the same way and I have not fixed in any way.I have replaced the clear tubing with carbon rod seam's ok now.
Thanks for your post,

Regards Trev.
