A build report will be incoming, but that's still some time away. Just to get everything in step 1 of 67 lined up properly, I'm going to have to design by myself and build 3 different jigs. Without instructions. Or even a hint in the instruction booklet that you'd better use a jig or end up with a crooked wreck. This is where one really sees how much effort and thought part works publishers like Deagostini put into the how and why of their model building instructions. The difference is sobering. Where DeAgo would spend 1 or 2 issues in explaining how to correctly shape the spokes and install them, AL just goes "Go make some spokes, then glue them in. Here's how they should look like. Good luck, dude."

Hi Greyhawk, You are so right. Their part works are very well constructed and the R&D has been really thought out. My first wooden ship was Billings Meta. All the ply had stamped lines that had to be cut out with a fret saw... Good luck with your spokes. Eager to follow your build. Kind regards, Garth "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! I took parts of my time machine to work so I could sand the resin parts.my staff was thrilled by all the fine white dust I left all over my desk.tee hee.

Funny you should mention that. I have actually started building this little beauty at work just this week. Shouldn't produce too much sawdust. Build report will be incoming after I've finished step one, which at current speed will take a few weeks still. How far I am so far. Looking forward to seeing how you get on with this one as this is the same i recently had given to me. Too many part finished items to start another but be interested to see how you get on with the spokes because the instructions have you putting 2 flat sides on a round dowel so maybe some filler heeded in the holes on the hub? Happy Modelling

I've built myself a spoke-i-nator jig to flatten the dowels Works like a charm so far First tests have the spokes sitting in the hub holes pretty snug, so filler will only be needed for visual purposes, if even that.

Now that is a great idea I must say. The instructions are somewhat lacking and I was looking at this and wondering how to achieve an even finish along such a large length of wood. If you don't mind me asking what was the wood thickness you used for the 2 parallel pieces that the dowel fits between? Happy Modelling

If you don't mind me asking what was the wood thickness you used for the 2 parallel pieces that the dowel fits between? The right ones are 3mm high and the left ones are 2mm high. You put the dowel into the right one, then take off a mm off the dowel by scraping along with a straight blade, then remove the dowel, turn it over, put it in the left one and scrape again. You need to do this slowly and carefully (especially as to not ram the blade into your other arm), but it works beautifully.

Up to issue 40 now. Since last time all the gun port/side wall templates have been installed and I've started the actual planking. The material for the planks is a godsend. It's REALLY cooperative.

Nice job on your planking. The wood is lovely and soft for shaping. They bend easily for the bow and stern. Keep up the excellent work. Chris On the bench 1/350 Revell Tirpitz Platinum Edition (Pontos PE and Wooden deck) plus extra Eduard PE set and extra MK1 door sets.

Thanks everyone. I have now planked up to and including the second row of gun ports. As others, I had a little trouble with the brass bands provided. The hardness (I lost two drill bits and a snipper to them) and readyness to brake while bending them cold indicates that these strips are MS58 brass. I have instead replaced them with strips I cut out of MS63 brass sheet, which works infinitely better for our purposes.
