Hi Kev,
Your build is coming along very nicely. I believe that I have found the battery on the MP4/4. It's the box in front of the left hand intercooler ( I think ).
Now about this part that's missing...could it be the gear change linkage rods that come out of the monocoque and connect to the gearbox at the rear?

Re the missing part, well done mate, you are correct!! Can't believe that neither Tamiya or the aftermarket set provides a gearchange linkage!!

Thanks Kev. Feeling pretty pleased with myself for spotting the missing detail. When you mentioned it was around the engine/gearbox I compared my 1/20 tamiya model with the Deag' 1/8 and saw the difference.
Unbelievable that such a part could be missed from the super detail kit.

Cheers Malc. Haha!! Well I did say it was a 'glaring' omission and when comparing your 1:20 model with the DeAg 1:8 it must have stood out like the proverbial sore thumb! Yes, unbelievable that it wasn't spotted by Top Studio for inclusion in their upgrade set?!
I've done some more work on my build Malc, will have a new update later today or tomorrow, thanks for following.

Hello all,
More details added to the engine/gearbox assembly. Comparison to the photos in the previous update will show the new parts which are mainly to do with the engine oil tank which sits atop the gearbox and it's relative plumbing and fittings.
I have also fitted the retaining bars which connect the engine crankcase to the gearbox and I have fitted the brake hoses which run along the front of the upper wishbones to a union below the oil tank and then forward to the front of the engine for later connection. The hoses were attached to the wishbone using single strands of copper wire which were blackened and then twisted together to simulate plastic cable ties as would be seen on the real wishbones, I'm quite pleased with how they look.
Several tiny brass bolt heads were also fitted around the wishbone pivot points and on the engine/gearbox retaining bars. Think I need to work on scratchbuilding the missing gear linkage and then the exhaust manifolds next, then it'll be onto the induction/injection side of things at the top of the engine.

Hello all,
More progress!!
The first two photos below show some small etch parts that fit across the tops of the connectors for the HT leads. They were carefully bent to shape then fitted with thin CA cement and painted black.
Next job was to prep and paint the main exhaust parts, which are supplied as resin parts in the detail set and replace the rather plain kit parts. There are a couple more parts to the exhaust system which aren't dealt with here but will be shown at a later date as it becomes necessary to fit them. There was also a PE part for the exhaust flange where it bolts to the cylinder heads. These weren't painted as they are about the right metallic finish as they come so were left as they were and just given a light oil wash to bring out the detail at the same time as I oil washed the rest of the exhaust parts. There were several small resin connectors/unions for the temperature sensors that are found on the exhaust manifold. These were also painted and fitted, though the cabling will be added in the next update.
Last job for this update was to scratchbuild and paint the famous missing part, namely the gear selector shaft and it's universal joint. There should be two U/J's throughout the length of the shaft, one near the rear end of the gearbox, which I've built and another just as it passes behind the exhaust manifold, but it will never be seen behind there so I've left that one out to save time and aggravation. The shaft is just stretched sprue, with the U/J being made from small pieces of plastic and some thin pliable aluminium sheet that I had in my spares box. Believe it or not I manged to build the joint in a way that it does actually work - that is before the shaft was glued to the gearbox in a fixed position!
