Assembly of the antenna mast/signal lamp. The solder joints were cleaned up with a needle file, taking care not to weaken the joints. The mast legs need to be slightly bent to allow the mast to slope to the angle shown in the instructions. The mast legs are then inserted into a pre-drilled former block (which is later discarded), and the various mast parts (including signal lamp) added, most of which are cut from the supplied wire. The mast is then painted, not forgetting that the top section of the mast is black to correspond with the line of the black funnel top. The superstructure base is then drilled and the mast glued into place. Tomick attached the following image(s):

Main gun bases prepared & painted along with the four anchor's and the launch crane arms, all of which will be fited later on. Make sure you identify the top/bottom of the angled main gun turret base before painting it. I made the two 1mm thick anchor hole surrounds for the bow, which are cut from 7mm dia plastic tube, rather than being made up from the supplied wire. Tomick attached the following image(s):

The plans are used for the placement of the brass porthole blanking covers which are repeated on both sides at the stern. At the stern all portholes are blanked, but be mindful that for the rest of the hull there is a mix of blanked and open portholes which are identified via the plans (the shaded ports are holes). Stern loadline/de-gausing cable applied; instead of using the supplied brass wire, I opted for 1mm wide rectangular plastic strip, which is more in keeping with the rectangular box section shape that the cable is housed within on the actual ship, and will be painted the grey of the hull colour later on. Simply follow the line shown on the plans, and plastic strip is far easier to install than brass wire. Tomick attached the following image(s):

More hull side detail added to both sides of the hull, with the exception of the longer of the three bars which is only located to the portside. The metal tape of the two spools is soft enough to be moulded to the contour of the hull sides. Tomick attached the following image(s):

Bow deck fittings; the two vents are prepared from sandwiched photo-etch as before, and are located diagonally opposite, the assembly is then painted and the wood deck added. Tomick attached the following image(s):

In the kit the Portholes are simple drilled holes, take note that there are five on the portside and six on the starboard side which are larger in diameter than the rest. I opted for porthole rims to all the portholes, these in essense are brass eyelets which when inserted into each port hole and create a rim, they also give a neat edge to the drilled hole. For the 11 large portholes I used the 1.5mm internal diameter brass eyelet's from the Amati fittings range ref: 4945/01 (via CMB) The large holes were marked and drilled as per the plans and the portholes glued into place, and will be painted when the upper half grey is completed. The rest of the Portholes are smaller, and identified on the plans as shaded circles. Again I opted for porthole rims to all the portholes. For the smaller port's I used 1.2mm internal diameter brass eyelet's from the Amati fittings range - ref: 4945/00 (via CMB) The holes were marked and drilled as per the plans and the portholes glued into place, these will be overpainted when the upper half grey is completed.
