Stage 79 Contains: Keel and Beak Fret.
Glue one of the brown strips along the edge of the keel. The front of the strip should overlap the false keel as shown in Step 79A. Cut the section of the strip that overlaps the false keel in line with the edge of it, as shown in Step 79B. Now add two more strips to complete the row to the stern, the last strip will have to be twisted to fit properly. Cut away the excess from the stern.
Begin a new row starting from the bow. Press on the strips with the handle of one of your tools to ensure they are flush with the hull. Complete the row and then cut away the excess at the bow and stern.
Add a new strip to the bow on the other side of the hull. Complete the row and trim the excess at the bow and stern.
Apply another three rows of strips. When applying the fourth row you will need to leave a gap at the stern, as shown in Step 79G. Cut away the excess at the bow and stern.
Continue adding rows up to the seventh row. Note how the strips should be positioned at the stern, creating gaps between them, as shown in Step 79I.
If find you can’t completely cover the bow as shown in Step 79J, cut the strip short and leave a gap. Make sure you have applied seven rows to each side of the hull by the end of this stage.

Stage 80 Contains: Stem, Prow and Rudder Fret. Apply a strip (A) and the another (B) above it to create a gap at the bow, as shown in Step 80A. Complete the two rows just started and trim the excess at the bow and stern. The two strips at the stern should be placed flush against each other and slightly away from the previous row, as shown in Step 80B. Start a new row of strips, placing two at the locations indicated by the arrows in Step 80C. Glue another strip to the hull, above those from the previous step. Cut the excess at the bow in line with the strips above and the edge of the false keel. Complete the two rows as shown in Step 80E, leave a gap at the stern with the previous row.
Make sure to press the strips against the hull to make sure they are flush and any excess glue is pushed out and cleaned off. Trim the excess from the strips at the stern.
Step 80G shows what the bow should now look like. The central line where the stem will be positioned should be clear.
Apply two new strips in the locations shown in Step 80H, cutting the upper strip in line with the existing strips shown by the dotted line. Apply three more strips, staggering them as shown in Step 80I.
Complete the rows started by the strips in the previous step. There should be nine new rows on either side of the false keel.

Stage 81 Contains: Rudder Hinges, Wooden Strips 2 x 2 x 300mm, Wooden Strips 1 x 4 x 300mm, Brass Rod 1.5mm.
Continue covering the hull, adding the strips as shown in Step 81A. The strips at the bow will need to be cut to fit flush against the other strips around it. When the rows are in place at the stern there will be several wedge-shaped gaps.
Complete another two rows as shown in Step 81D. Continue adding strips until you have reached the rows at the side of the hull.
Now start to fill the gaps. Take some of the spare strips and hold at the side of a gap. Mark the length of the gap onto the strip. Cut from one corner of the strip to the other to create a wedge. Test-fit the wedge in the gap and shape more if necessary. Apply quick setting glue to the wedge and press it into the gap.
Fill in the rest of the gaps at the bow. Repeat the same process to fill in all the gaps at the stern,

Stage 82 Contains: Decorations, Eyepins, Wooden Strips 0.6 x 5 x 200mm, Walnut Strips 2 x 2 x 300mm, Upper Stern Gallery Fret.
Now that the hull is covered, take a sanding block and smooth the surface. You may notice some small gaps between the strips, to fill them collect the dust from sanding. Apply a drop of quick setting adhesive to the gaps and fill with the dust collected from sanding. When dry, sand the area smooth. Repeat this process if necessary.
Take a sheet of sandpaper and smooth the strips at the gun ports, the stern, transom and the bowsprit deck.
Retrieve the two frets received with Stages 79 and 80. Remove all of the parts from the frets and smooth them with sandpaper. Then paint the edges with a wood stain of your choice and leave to dry.
Position the stem and beak as shown in Step 82F to test fit. If they don’t fit in the gap use a file to widen it until they do. Once you have the correct fit glue the two parts in place.
Turn the model over and use a large round file to bore the hole at the stern. As shown in Step 82H, glue the stern post in to position and up into the hole enlarged in the previous step,
Glue one of the keel sections up against the back of the beak section. Glue the two remaining keel sections into the positions shown in Step 82J. The aft section should be flush with the section at the stern.

Stage 83 Contains: Columns 10mm, Deadeyes 5mm, Walnut Strips 2 x 4 x 300mm, Circular gun ports.
Retrieve the lower stern gallery from Stage 71. Remove the three parts from the fret and smooth with sandpaper. Glue the pieces together as shown in Step 71A. Coat one side of the gallery in the same way as the decks. Trim the excess from the edges and sand smooth.
Take the gallery and place it against the transom at the top of the curve of the stern gun ports, 10mm below the second row of gun ports at the side, as shown in Step 83C. If it doesn’t fit at this position, then sand the inner edge until it does. Do not glue in place yet.
Prepare some 2 x 4mm walnut strips. Soak a strip in warm water to make it bendable. In order to bed the strip around the curve at the bow you may want to use a hammer to create dents along the strip, as shown in Step 83D. You can also use a special plank-bending tool instead of a hammer.
Check the shape of the strip against the bow, up against the stem and 2mm below the gun ports. Adjust the curve if necessary. Apply instant adhesive to the strip and glue into position. Glue a second strip aft of the first, 2mm under the gun ports.
Glue a third strip aft of the second. This strip should end 20mm past the last gun port as shown in Step 83I. The stern gallery is shown in place to help position the strip; do not glue it into place yet.
Repeat the gluing of strips to the port side of the hull.

Stage 84 Contains: Columns 10mm, Decorations, Eyepins, Walnut Strips 2 x 4 x 300mm, Deadeyes 5mm.
Glue a 2 x 4mm walnut strip 3mm above the middle row gun ports, cut away the excess at the bow. Glue another two strips aft of the first one, 3mm above the gun ports, ending in line with the lower row.
Bend another 2 x 4mm walnut strip to fit around the bow. Glue the strip in place, 3mm above the top of the lower gun ports. Complete the row. The last strip should finish 10mm past the two strips above it.
Retrieve the prow from Stage 82 and glue it to the stern, aligned with the beak, as shown in Step 84E.
Retrieve the middle stern gallery from Stage 73. Remove the three parts, glue them together and then sand smooth. Cover the gallery with planks, apart from the projecting tabs and trim the excess from the edges when dry.
Test fit the middle gallery on the transom, sliding the tabs into the notches as shown in Step 84H. Do not glue in place yet. Remove the upper gallery from the fret received with Stage 82. Cover the gallery with planks apart from the two tabs.
Step 84J shows the final positions of the three galleries. Don’t glue any of them in place yet.

Stage 85 Contains: Rings 2mm, Eyepins, Walnut strips 2 x 4 x 300mm, Gun Port Doors, Deadeyes 5mm.
Recover the rudder from Stage 80 and the hinges from Stage 81. Shorten the hinges with side cutters so that they fit on the rudder at the points shown in Step 85A. Glue the hinges into place.
Once the hinges have dried, drill a shallow hole in the rudder at each of the holes in the hinges. Cut the length of the nails to about half the thickness of the rudder. Apply a small amount of quick setting glue into the holes and lightly hammer the nails into the rudder. Repeat for both sides. Step 85D shows how the rudder should now look.
Place a hinge in the gap below the lowest hinge to test fit. If the second hinge doesn’t fit, use a file or sandpaper to open the gap. Repeat for the rest of the gaps.
Retrieve the 1.5mm brass rod from Stage 81. Cut four 6mm lengths of rod and glue in the hinges, as shown in Step 85F. Bend three of the four hinges to look like the ones in Step 85G. Take the three bent hinges and fit them over the brass rods of the upper three hinges and the fourth hinge over the lowest hinge, as shown in Step 85H.
Turn the model over and place the rudder up against the rudder post as shown in Step 85I, with the open hinges either side of the post. Fix the hinges to the hull with glue and nails. The rudder should turn from side to side when complete.

Stage 86 Contains: Columns 10mm, Decorations, Gun Port frames, Gun Port Doors.
Prepare an 80mm length of 2 x 4mm walnut strip. Curve the strip and then cut into four 18mm lengths. Glue the lengths together to create the two hawses as shown in Step 86A. Smooth the two pieces with sandpaper and then glue either side of the stem below the bottom wale.
Drill two 3mm holes into the hawses as shown in Step 86C. Smooth the edges of the holes with sandpaper.
Cut a length of 2 x 4mm walnut strip to fit above the bowsprit bulkhead, between the gunwales. Glue into place. Cut another strip to fit along the aft edge of the forecastle deck, leaving 13mm gaps either side for the stairs. Cut another length of walnut strip to fit at the front of the quarterdeck, again leaving two 13mm gaps. Glue into place.
Prepare three more strips for the fronts of the other decks as indicated in Step 86G, glue into place. Sand all the strips smooth.
Place, do not glue some of the decorative gun port frames into the gun ports as shown in Step 86H. Glue a walnut strip along the side of the hull below the gun ports, starting from the bow bulkhead. Continue the row aft, ending it 20mm past the last gun port. Place the frames in the gun ports to ensure you leave enough space. Repeat on the other side of the model.

Stage 87 Contains: Eyepins, Rings 2mm, Doors, Gun Port Doors, Circular Gun Ports.
Cut two 75mm lengths of the 8 x 8mm walnut strips from Stage 65 to create the catheads. Shape the end 20mm of the catheads to an angle, as shown in Step 87B. Drill four 1mm holes into the square ends of the catheads.
Press a groove between the front and rear holes in the catheads, as shown by the dotted lines in Step 87D. Glue an 8mm length of 2 x 2mm walnut strip to the catheads at the indicated points in Step 87E. Smooth the surface of the catheads with sandpaper.
Place one of the catheads onto the forecastle deck in the position shown in step 87G. Mark the position of the cathead on the strip at the front of the deck. Remove the section of the strip which blocks the position of the cathead. Be careful not to damage the surface of the deck.
Glue the cathead into position and then hammer two nails either side of the 8mm strip at the rear. Repeat the process for the starboard cathead.

Stage 88 Contains: Columns 10mm, Chain, Circular Gun Ports, Brass Strips, Heads Fret, Window Frames.
Mark four 25mm lengths on the 8 x 8mm walnut strips from Stage 65. File a recess around the posts; Look at Step 88B to see how they should appear when complete. Cut the four sections from the strip, smooth the columns with sandpaper and paint with clear varnish.
Retrieve the rail assemblies from Stages 54, 55 and 69. Drill a small hole into the base of the outer columns of each of the rails and glue a nail into them.
Use side cutters to remove the heads of the nails. Take the 65mm wide rail containing two columns and place it onto the forecastle deck, 25mm back from the strip at the front of the deck. Press the nails into the planks to mark them. Drill a small hole into the two points marked, apply some glue to the nails in the bottom of the rail and press them into the holes.
Mark and drill another two holes 64mm from the strip at the front of the deck and glue the second 65mm wide rail containing 4 columns into place.
Fit a nail into the bottom of the four columns from Step 88B. Glue three of the columns onto the forecastle deck at the positions shown in Step 88G. Fit the last of the columns underneath the front of the quarterdeck as shown in Step 88H.
Repeat the process to fit the last 65mm rail in front of the column, 7mm aft of the mast hole. Fix the remaining 55mm rail in front of the mast hole as shown in Step 88J.

Stage 89 Contains: Decorations, Circular Gun Ports, Beakhead, Rail Fittings.
Retrieve the heads fret from Stage 88 and remove the parts from the fret (A & B). Smooth the pieces with sandpaper. Prepare some 1 x 3mm wooden strip. Cut one 30mm length and seven 35mm lengths. Glue an ‘A’ and ‘B’ head piece at either end of the 30mm strip, as shown in Step 89B.
Glue one of the 35mm strips to the head pieces, next to the 30mm strip. Cut the excess of the 35mm strip in line with the ‘B’ piece. Then glue the rest of the 35mm strips around the two pieces. Use the cut-off pieces to cover the head pieces in the gap between the strips as shown in Step 89E. Cut away the excess and then file smooth. Repeat the steps to create the second head.
Wrap one of the brass strips from Stage 88 around a small cylinder to give it a rounded shape. Paint the two heads with wood stain of your choice. Wrap the brass strip around the head to check the fit and curve, cut the strip to the correct length.
Create another three brass rings and glue them around the top and bottom of both heads, as shown in Step 89I. Paint the heads with clear varnish. Step 89J shows where the heads will be positioned, do not glue in place yet.

Stage 90 Contains: Circular Gun Ports, Gun Port Frames, Window Frames, Rail Fitting,
Retrieve or assemble a square of grating. Cut a 7 x 14 grid of the grating to fit behind the beakhead, as shown in Step 90B. Place the grating under the beakhead and draw the opening onto it. Cut around the outline marked on the grating. Test fit the grating piece in the opening, if it doesn’t fit sand or file the outer edge until it does.
Repeat the same process to prepare the different grating pieces. Don’t create a grating piece for the circled area shown in Step 90F. When you have prepared the pieces, glue them into the corresponding sections of the beakhead.
Place the beakhead onto the bow with the projecting side of the grating facing down. The top of the stem should fit through the hole circled in Step 90F, adjust the fit if it doesn’t.
Retrieve a 2 x 2mm and a 1 x 4mm wooden strip. Cut the 1 x 4mm strip into 20 8mm lengths and the 2 x 2mm strip into 20 6mm lengths. Glue the 6mm lengths under the 8mm lengths to create the ladder steps.
Place one of the windows and one of the heads into place, do not glue yet. Glue half of the steps assembled in the previous step up one side of the bow bulkhead and then repeat on the other side as shown in Step 90J.

Stage 91 Contains: Circular Gun Ports, Gun Port Frames, Window Frames, Rail Fittings, Columns 10mm.
Retrieve the gun port door frets from Stages 85, 86 and 87. Remove the ‘A’ and ‘B’ parts as shown in Step 91A from all the frets and collect them in two piles. Smooth the edges of the door parts with a file.
Glue the ‘A’ parts onto the centre of the ‘B’ parts as shown in Step 91C. Paint the outside of the doors with a wood stain of your choice and then clear varnish when dry. Paint the inside of the doors with red ochre paint. Step 91F shows the position where the gun port doors will be placed later.
Retrieve spare lengths of 5 x 5mm wooden strips, you will need at least 160mm. Mark eight 20mm lengths and shape one end of each as shown in Step 91G. Separate the eight 20mm sections from the overall length and sand the ends smooth. Drill a hole in the bottom of each of the columns. Glue a nail into all of the holes and cut off the heads. Paint the columns with clear varnish.
Glue the beakhead from Stage 90 into position at the bow as shown in Step 91J.
