Issue/Stage 33 Contains – Laser Generator LED, Laser cannon Housing (Inner Half), XW01 Screws (X5), Forward Generator Laser Cap, Forward Generator Inner & Outer Half, Rear Laser Generator, Rear Laser Generator Inner & Outer Half, Laser Generator Union, Middle & Forward Lower Fuselage Cross Member.

Making the Cannon

Take the seven parts of the laser generator casing, plus the LED. Fit the LED into the small hole in the end of the forward generator cap and gently push so the LED’s shoulder sits on the rim and the tip protrudes from the end cap. Press the halves of the forward generator body as shown with the LED wire running through the holes at each end. Once the halves have been assembled, pull the cable at the end allowing the end cap to fit over so that the lug in the cap fits into the slot as shown. Feed the central union over the other end of the wire, noting the projecting lug, which only allows to fit in one position. Now feed the wire into the groove as shown and take the rear end cap which also has a slot and push into the central union, leaving the wire coming out of the groove.
Take the two halves of the rear generator body and fit the internal pins into the matching sockets, pushing the two halves together. Align the slot in the thick end of the generator body and push the cap into place.
Align the laser generator with the half of the cannon housing you assembled in stage 32, fitting the two pins into the sockets in the housing. Fit the second half of the housing, supplied with this issue and push them together ensuring the LED wire comes out through the notch in the side of the housing. Take the rear end cap pushing on the end firmly in place.

Extending the Frame

Lay out the parts as shown, together with four XW01 screws. The middle cross member fits into two small locating pins as shown. Fit the cross member with two XW01 screws. Fit the forward cross member with the remaining two XW01 screws as shown so that the two round lugs fit on the inside of the upturned ends of the side frames.

This issue/stage is now complete. Store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.

Issue/Stage 34 Contains – Laser Cannon Tip, Laser Cannon Emitter, Laser Cannon Flashback Suppressor, Laser Cannon Suppressor Mount Halves, Fibre Optic, Fuselage Frame Cross Members (X5).

Making the Cannon

Fit half of the suppressor mount into the rectangular flange on the end of the laser cannon emitter and push together the two halves of the suppressor mount matching up the pins and sockets. Fit the suppressor over the emitter and press into the suppressor mount, lining up the lug with the notch in the mount. Fit the smaller end of the clear tip into the end of the emitter. Push the tip of the fibre optic into the hole in the end of the laser generator. Push the end of the laser generator over the fibre optic, aligning the “D” shaped hole with the matching end of the generator. Press the end of the laser generator onto place, fitting the two side tubes onto the matching holes beside the radial fins. Feed the fibre optic cable through the barrel assembly and press the end of the laser cannon tube into the end of the laser generator. Finally, slip the suppressor/tip assembly over the end of the fibre optic and press it into the barrel.
You can test the laser cannon using the battery pack as before.

This issue/stage is now complete. Store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.

Issue/Stage 35 Contains – Side Detail, Targeting Computer, Hydraulic Piston Rods (X2), Hydraulic Strut Mounts (X2), Hydraulic Strut Bodies (X2), Pivot Pins (X4), XW01 Screws (X9), Fuselage Frame Struts (x4).

Making the Struts

Take the cockpit assembly from stage 18, together with all the hydraulic strut parts this time. Carefully take off the piston rods from the sprue. Fit the eye of the first rod between the flanges of one of the hinges on the canopy, lining up the holes. Take one of the smaller pivot pins and insert the plain end through the hinge and eye. Carefully use smooth faced pliers to press the pin all the way in, locking the knurling into the plastic. Repeat for the opposite side.
Take one of the strut bodies and one of the mounts and fit them together as shown. Take one of the larger pivot pins and insert the plain end through the holes in the assembly and carefully press the pin all the way in, locking the knurling into the plastic using the pliers as before. Repeat this process for the other strut body.
There is a hole running down the length of the strut body which fits over the piston rod as shown.

Making the Frame

Lay out the frame parts as shown. The cross members are graduated in size and the struts are marked “L” and “R”. Take the smallest cross member (1) and the upper strut (A), which is marker “L” and fit together as shown with an XW01 screw. Fit the second strut (B), which is marked “R” on the opposite side of the cross member as shown. Line up the fixing hole and screw the parts together with an XW01 screw. Take the next largest cross member (2) and lock into the slots in the frame. Repeat with all the other cross members in order slotting them into the frame. Use two XW01 screws in the final (5) cross member to hold the frame together.
Take the lower strut (C), which is marked “R” and align it with the assembly as shown. Fit the lower ends of all the cross members into the slots in the strut. Fit the last frame strut (D) in the same way on the other side. Finally, fix both ends of the struts with XW01 screws.

The Targeting Computer

Take the two remaining parts supplied with this issue and fit matching up the pins with the holes. Note, the mounting pins are different sizes so the detail will only fit one way round.

This issue/stage is now complete. Store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.

Issue/Stage 36 Contains – Life Support Console, Forward Console Support, Targeting Computer Display, Life Support Detail (X3), Cockpit Frames (X4), XW01 Screws (X11), XW02 Screws (X3), XW07 Screws (X13).

Cockpit Fitting

Take the parts of the life support system and targeting computer, including the assembly from stage 35. Fit the pin of one of the small detail into the back of the slot near one of the corner of the life support console. Repeat for the opposite detail the other side. Align the “U” shaped detail with the console pressing the pins into the holes on the console as shown. Fit the targeting computer display as shown and press the square pins into the slots in the console.
Align the targeting computer assembly from stage 35 with the console, lining up the large holes and press into place securing with two XW02 screws.

Extending the Frame

Layout all the frame parts as shown, noting which way round the lugs go. You will also need four XW01 screws. Take the two frame parts as shown and fit together lining up the fixing holes. Screw together with an XW01 screw. Repeat and attach the opposite frame section. Take the fourth frame and align it as shown using two XW01 screws to secure the assembly together.
Take the frame from stage 33 and fit the assembly you just constructed up from below as shown. Fit the two projecting arms of the framework into the recesses at the front of the cockpit floor pressing the crosspieces up against the forward struts. Fix the frame to the cockpit floor with two XW01 screws. Join the crosspieces to the forward struts with four XW07 screws. Now take the forward console support and match up the two locating pins in the thicker end with the holes in the cockpit floor, pressing it into place as shown. Fix the forward console support in place using an XW01 screw.
Take the framework you assembled in stage 35 and align it with the forward struts so you can fit it into place as show.
Join the top of the forward console support to the rearmost crosspiece using an XW01 screw. Now fit the crosspiece side using an XW01 screw, following by fitting another XW01 screw to the opposite side.
Finally, join the forward struts using eight XW07 screws in the positions indicated.

This issue/stage is now complete. Store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.
